8 Days Sahara Desert Tour: from Fez To Marrakech
Day 1: Fes Airport
We will pick you up from the airport and transfer to the riad(hotel). You will be able to enjoy the nearby sites today.
Day 2: Fez Sightseeing
After breakfast, the day will be especially dedicated to exploring Fez. This beautiful city is divided into three zones: “Fes el¬ Bali”- the old part, “Fès el¬ Jdid”- the new part, and “Ville Nouvelle”- the French side. People who visit this city are completely enthralled by one of the largest medieval sites full of endless streets. Here are many sites to visit: The Mellah, The Jewish Quarter, The Plaza of The Dyers, Fes el Bali, The Medieval Medina of the city, Fez el Jedid, The New Medina of Fes, The Andalusian Mosque, and many more.
Day 3: Fes – Azrou – Midelt – Merzouga
We will move towards the desert along the way to Merzouga and find a town called “Ifrane”, a charming and completely different area from the rest of Morocco. Ifrane consists of thick Cedar Forests where you can see a lot of monkeys. We will go through Midelt, located between the Middle Atlas and the High Atlas. We will stop for lunch and then continue to Erfoud crossing the Ziz Valley. Then we will drive to Merzouga where will you leave your luggage at the hotel and move to the desert by camels. Once we reach Haima, we will have our dinner and enjoy the drums echoing in the desert night and rest in the tent.
Day 4: Merzouga – Khamilia – Nomad Villages – Rissani – Erg Chebbi
Wake up early in the morning to watch the beauty of the sunrise. At midday, we will visit a nomad family where you will see how the Berber pizza is made and taste it under the shade of a tree. After lunch, you will rest for a while. Later, we will move through the desert and see an oasis in the desert in 4×4. We will also visit the town of Khamlia (village of the blacks; descendants of Africans known for their Gnawa music), the mines of Mifiss and meet the Berber nomads of the desert. Then you will return to Haima where you will have dinner, play music again and stay overnight in the tent.
Day 5 : Merzouga Dune – Todra Gorges – Dades Valley
The next morning we will wake up early to watch the sunrise. After camel trekking followed by a good shower and breakfast, we will head towards Marrakech through Rissani, an important town that caters food, animals, crafts to its surrounding areas.
We will continue to Todra Gorges, through the vast palm grove of Tinerhir, where agriculture, date palms, crafts stand out. Later we will arrive at the gorge where we can see the spectacular landscape that has been forged for thousands of years by nature. We will continue down the road of a thousand Kasbahs, named after the great palm Skoura accompanied by hundreds of Kasbahs that we will see along the way. We’ll enter the Dades Valley and explore the hundreds of kasbahs dotted along the route. Then we will continue along the river entering the narrow valley where we will make a stop to enjoy the scenery. Beside the revier bed, you will have dinner and spend the night.
Day 6: Dades Valley – Roses Valley – Ouarzazate – Aït Benhaddou – Marrakech
After breakfast, we will pass the oasis of Skoura; crossing the Valley of Roses, formed by hectares of roses whose aroma can be smelt throughout the month of May. We will continue to the fortified city called Aït Benhaddou, a World Heritage Site by Unesco since 1987. Aït Benhaddou is the place where a number of iconic movies have been made such as Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator, The Mummy, etc.
Later, we will travel through the Tizi N’Tichka mountain pass where we will stop to enjoy the scenery and click pictures. In the end, we will reach Marrakech; have our dinner and stay at a riad.
Day 7: Marrakech Sightseeing
After a mouth-watering breakfast, you can visit by yourself or with a local guide to nearby places. What to say about this great city “Marrakech”, a city full of life. There are large and interesting things to visit such as:
- Market with narrow streets, full of spices & aroma, souks of leather, metal, etc.
- Jamaa el Fna square: during day time, you will find juices, nuts … and at night, it is filled with food stalls where you can taste the typical Moroccan food.
- Koutoubia Mosque: This is the most important mosque in this city, but access is denied for non-practitioners of Islam.
- Bahia Palace: Rich in history and traditional Moroccan architectural styles, its interior is full of rooms decorated majestically; a must-see for visitors.
You will have your dinner and sleep in the riad.
Day 8: Marrakech – Airport
You will have your breakfast at the riad. Then we will leave you at the airport before your flight departure and this will be the end of our services.
